Ben Darwish is a songwriter, producer, and composer based in Mexico City, originally from Portland, Oregon. He first gained recognition as a jazz artist, leading several acclaimed ensembles and receiving honors such as the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2015, he became a sought-after collaborator in the pop and R&B scenes, contributing to songs for BANKS (“Skinnydipped,” “Deadend,” “Birds By The Sea”), Octavian feat. Saint Jhn (“Famous”), MisterWives (“Superbloom”), Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello (“The Christmas Song”), and more. His song “Shine On” won the grand prize in the 2020 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
As a live musician, Ben has performed with KD Lang, Mike Posner, Natasha Bedingfield, and Nate Mercereau, and toured extensively with BANKS during her III album cycle. He has also served as musical director for artists including Laufey, Porter Robinson, and Pussy Riot.
During the pandemic, Ben immersed himself in 3D animation, producing two original animated music videos: Sleepwalkin (2021) and I Like Doze (2023). His ambient solo piano project, Arcata, has released a series of introspective singles, earning him a growing audience in the instrumental and mindfulness spaces. He also produces popular ambient music under the monikers Subtle Lake and O Plateau.
